MIAMI – CUBA: the ongoing project

WOULD YOU GO BACK?

What started out as a personal photographic project shooting aspects of Cuban culture in Miami, FL soon became something much bigger. In trying to establish where the center of modern Cuban culture is today, in Miami or in Cuba, the exploration went beyond still photography. Cuban Americans are asked if they would ever go back to Cuba – even if it is just for a visit. This is what they had to say.

old cars and winter rain…

Happy 2009 everyone!
It was on a cold rainy day with the latest troubles of Detroit fresh on my mind that I came across this classic, neglected beauty grinning from the driveway of an equally neglected yard. For all the reasons that some critics say about why the US auto industry is in the mess that it is, there is look and feel to an American Car that is steeped in the culture and the expression of a great nation. And I am not talking about the modern American Cars that try to emulate the designs of foreign cars and don’t quite pull it off. Why would you make a Chevy look like a Honda, or a Buick look like a VW Touareg? Maybe there are deeper identity issues lurking somewhere.

If only we could get classic cars to run on electricity.

quick detour…

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Its Friday and I have a ton of images to edit. My distraction (I’ll admit was via Facebook and Twitter) this morning is an image on Stephen Alverez’s blog. Check it out. I am always impressed by his work and this image is just incredible. OK, back to work!
