Very good photo shoot today. New client and new assistant. All very good.

During a set-up change my client was talking about Photoshop with the model. He recalled working with Photoshop when the first version was shipped.

I remember starting out with version 2.5 and version 3.0. I remember some of my peers who were purists, reprimanding me for wasting time with that “computer stuff”, scowling at me with banged-up Nikon F2′s draped around their necks. Even when version 5.5 was out these knuckle-heads were in denial. The purists shunned me, which was awesome! The “35mm boys” could never know how good 4×5 or 2&1/4 film scanned and imported into Photoshop could be. But that was 10 years ago. Look how far we have come: PS CS3, Lightroom 2… no more film…
This month we welcome Photoshop CS 4. Sweet!

Some clients like the fact that you know a lot about Photoshop and have grown with the product and its influence on photography. Other clients hate it and have no confidence in photographers doing their own post. It is a fine line sometimes. Thats why it is great to work with retouchers and post houses. Not only can you send your clients there – so you know your project is still in good hands. But, all photographers have their limitations. It is good to know your own limitations and when to call in a professional retoucher/post house.
