unsolicited

Spam does not work. Spam can be any unwelcome, unsolicited attention seeking. It was the main reason for closing my Constant Contact account last year. Email promos seemed all the rage two years ago, I am surprised some photographers are still doing it. The tracking of emailed promo only shows who clicked through to your website. It does not measure the level of appreciation for your work or whether or not you may get a job out of that emailed promo. Check out APE’s post here with about 50 hilarious and not-so-hilarious comments. APE really has a great blog, with some great posts. But, reading through the comments generally there seems to be a lot of whiners out there.

If I can offer any advice it is really KNOW your client base & potential clients and what their preferences are whether it is mailed promos, showing your book in person, the odd phone call, PDF books or promo, emailed promos… EVERYONE is different. Knowing your client or potential clients’ preferences goes a long way towards a healthy communication foundation, that paves the way for easier production when you do get awarded the job.
